How many coats of gesso should I put down on canvas?
Im using acrylics and I started making my own stretched canvas. I did research and its all different and confusing. I need an artists opinion of what to do. Full directions would be helpful too.
I make my own canvas.
If you are using a white canvas, one good coat should do the trick. Gesso is a primer for putting paint on a surface--canvas, wood, plaster, etc. If there is a picture underneath, 2-3 coats might be required. Just add coats until there isn't a picture showing through the gesso.
