I have a quick crochet question?
I am just beginning to crochet, and I am attempting [key word, attempting] to make a blanket. I am also only using the chain stitch. How many stitches should I do in the first row?

You will need to learn to do a stitch, the chain is mostly used for creating the foundation row. The foundation row determines how wide the blanket will be. Just make a row of chains as long as you want the blanket to be wide. Then all you do is crochet as many rows as you need, to make it as long as you want it.
There are several simple stitches you can learn to do for making a blanket. Use single crochet (sc) for a tight weave blanket, or half double (hdc) for a little looser, or double crochet (dc) for a looser weave. they are pretty simple stitches, go to the video that teaches these stitches and try to follow along. Before you know it you will be crocheting.
